Abstract

Synthesis and antimicrobial screening of new series of hydrazide-hydrazones were described. Where, regiospacific alkylation of 2-oxonicotinonitriles1a,b with ethyl bromoacetate followed by hydrozinolys is afforded acetic acid hydrazides3a,b. The latter compounds were condensed with a variety of carbonyl containing compounds to give the target compounds of hydrazide- hydrazone derivatives 4a,b, 5a,b and6a-h. While, reaction of 3 a,b with acetyl acetone gave pyrazole derivatives7a,b. The antimicrobial activity of the new synthesized compounds 4b, 5c, 5e and 6bshowed a good activity against tested fungi (Aspergillus niger), while, all the tested compounds have a good and moderate activity against G (+ve) and G (-ve) bacteria.
